This is because mildew resides for a longer period of time in your basement and it leaves a musty and unpleasant smell in your basement. Thus while cleaning your dirty basement floor, you must open your window, use fans to improve air circulation and if possible you should also install dehumidifier to get rid of the moisture. If this is not enough and you are still feeling some kind of fungal smell prevailing in your basement then mix up household bleach in the quantity of 1 or 2 ounces with water and fill it up in spray bottle. One of the easiest solutions to clean your basement floor when it is smelly is to sprinkle your floor with chlorinated lime. Chlorinated lime is also known as bleaching powder. It is available anywhere in the super market. Let this bleaching powder sit on the floor for some time so that it can soak up the bad smell and all the microorganisms causing this foul smell. After some time sweep the floor or vacuum the floor. After vacuuming your floor, you must also mop your floor to make it sparkling clean.
